Southwest Florida Birding
and Wildlife Festival

The weekend long Southwest Florida Birding and Wildlife Festival is held at Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve just north of Marco Island.

The festival may offer over a dozen trips to important birding locations around the region, including Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, Sand Dollar Lagoon as well as locations in the Ten Thousand Islands region of Everglades National Park.

Other options typically are trips to such places as Raccoon Point, a wild and diverse area of the Big Cypress Preserve not open to the general public. Raccoon Point is home to a variety of wildlife including several groups of the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker.

Other activities may include a swamp walk in the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park or finding burrowing owls on Marco Island.

Visits to the Kirby Storter Boardwalk and a drive along nearby Turner River Road are also possibilities.

For more information, Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center or call (239) 417-6310.
