Shark Valley Bike Trail

The small elevation change in Shark Valley provides an ideal bike trail along the 15-mile paved loop road that passes a 50-foot observation tower at the mid-way point.

You’re welcome to bring your own bike, though few people do. Most opt to rent bikes ($7.95 per hour). A driver's license or other I.D. is required as a deposit.

Bike rentals start at 8:30 a.m., with the last rental at 3 p.m.  Rental bikes must be returned by 4 p.m.

All rental bikes are single gear, coaster brake types with adjustable seats, with baskets and helmets available. Florida law requires those under 16 to wear a helmet while biking.

Most bikes are sized for adults. However, there are some 20" children's bikes and several with child seats for kids 35 pounds or less.

With a backpack suited for carrying camera equipment, you should find cycling the tram road is a better option for wildlife photography. Your quiet approach by bike should provide many more photo subjects, close-up.

While the West Road is straight, the return route is on the more zig-zag East Road that features four “borrow pits” (quarries) used to build this road section.

These deepwater pits act just like African waterholes during the dry season, attracting animals and birds from most nearby areas.
