Shark Valley
Tram Road Loop Trail
The paved loop tram road trail is divided into two parts, the east and west sections. The straight West Road trail was built for oil exploration before the area became part of Everglades National Park.
The West Road trail parallels a flowing canal situated only feet from the pavement. Cyclists must travel opposite the tram’s route, which means starting on the straight West Road trail with the canal bordering it. The circuit takes between 2-4 hours to walk depending on your pace.
The canal has a large gator population which has lost all fear of humans. The reptiles, both large and small, laze everywhere around the road, not always readily obvious. You are advised to keep at least 15 feet away from all wild animals.
