Join a Turtle Walk
Gumbo Limbo Nature Center
Turtle Walk reservations for viewing nesting loggerhead turtles in the Boca Raton area are taken in early April. These reservations limited to the Gumbo Limbo Coastal Stewards only, a group which financially supports the center and its program with their annual dues. General public enrollment begins later, around the middle of April. These dates are subject to change but March wouldn't be too soon to start checking enrollment periods.
Tickets for a turtle walk are $20. Coastal Steward membership is open to anyone. Membership is by far the best way to secure a place on the turtle walk list.
Turtle walks are held from early June to the middle of July usually on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. The program starts at 8:30 p.m. and lasts
until around 11 p.m. Minimum age is 8 years. Scouts look for a nesting turtle
while participants attend a class inside the center.
Turtle Hatchling Releases:
Newborn sea turtles are released several times a week from middle-late July until early-middle September. Tickets for hatchling releases are $15. Tickets go on sale beginning in early June. Minimum age is 8 years. The turtle release programs usually are held from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
