Is The Main Business
The marina is the main gateway to saltwater fishing available on Florida Bay and brackish/fresh water in the backcountry. Popular species include snapper, sea trout, redfish, bass, bluegill, tarpon and snook. Fishing licenses are not sold here or anywhere in the park. You need to come with one. (They're readily available in Homestead/Florida City, including WalMart.) The marina can arrange full- or half-day fishing charters year-round that include fishing licenses, tackle, coolers and ice. Boats rental are 19-foot Carolina skiffs that can carry up to 4 people. They're modestly powered, with only 25-horsepower engines. But on these winding waterways, that's all you should need. They're equipped with an 18-gallon fuel tank, a bench seat cooler, bimini top, VHF radio/antenna, fire extinguisher, bilge pump, flare kit, first aid kit, anchor line, bow/stern rails, personal flotation devices and rod holders.
